Chinese marketplaces separate the "browse" image from the "decide" image far more sharply than Western platforms. Getting the three asset types right matters more than any single dimension.
Main Images (主图)
- Size: 800 × 800 px minimum, 1200 × 1200 px recommended, square. 800 px is the threshold that enables zoom on hover, so never go below it.
- File size: under 3 MB per image.
- Format: JPG or PNG.
- Five slots typically: the first is the search thumbnail and the most important image you will ever produce.
Conventions for the set:
- Product front, clean and clear.
- Alternative angle or in-use shot.
- Detail/material close-up.
- Scale or size reference.
- Packaging or what's included.
Unlike Amazon, moderate text overlays and selling points on main images are normal and expected here — but keep them short, legible at thumbnail size, and away from the edges where badges and price tags are overlaid by the platform.
The White Background Image (白底图)
A separate, strictly specified asset used for search feeds, campaign pages and platform-generated banners:
- Pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255).
- Product centred, filling most of the frame, no props, no text, no watermark, no border.
- 1000 × 1000 px or larger, square.
Submitting a compliant white-background image is often a prerequisite for campaign eligibility, so treat it as a required deliverable rather than an optional extra. Producing it is exactly the cut-out-and-fill-white workflow: remove the background, place on pure white, centre, export.
The Long Detail Image (详情页长图)
This is where the sale is actually made:
- Width: 750 px is the classic mobile-safe width; 790 px for some desktop templates.
- Height: unlimited in principle, but split the content into several images of under ~1500 px height each rather than one enormous file — long single images load slowly and often get compressed harder.
- Total weight: keep each slice under ~500 KB.
- Content: benefits, specifications, materials, size charts, usage scenarios, certifications, FAQ.
Because the detail page is mostly text-on-image, use PNG for slices that are mainly text and graphics and JPEG for photographic slices. Mixing them appropriately keeps text crisp without inflating the whole page.
Practical Notes
- Design at 2× and export at 1× for text-heavy slices so type stays sharp on high-DPI phones.
- Keep a consistent visual template across the detail page; inconsistent fonts and spacing read as untrustworthy.
- Batch-process the whole product set with identical crop and compression settings.
- Archive layered masters. Campaign requirements change several times a year, and rebuilding a detail page from flattened JPEGs is painful.
